Title Company Charges 'Email Fee', Class Action Filed

Case ID: 4944
Category: Credit / Debt

Last Update: 11/03/2006
Country:

A class action lawsuit has been filed against a title company in the Circuit Court of Cook County (Chicago) Illinois.

The lawsuit alleges that the defendant title company charges a fee of $85 at a house closing for an "email fee". Allegedly, consumers are not told about the $85 email fee until they are at closing and have no choice of whether to pay the fee or lose their home (because they refuse to close).

The lawsuit claims that charging $85 for an email constitutes "consumer fraud" and asks the Court to certify the lawsuit as a class action.
