Register Your Own Personal LawsuitOther Family Cases of InterestMore than 35 years after he claims a Roman Catholic priest molested him at a Downers Grove parish, 52-year-old George Knotek filed a class-action lawsuit against the Diocese of Joliet, saying its bishops "revictimized him" for decades.
The class has been certified in a nationwide lawsuit filed against Trex Company, Inc., on behalf of persons who purchased Trex decking materials between 1992 and 2004. The action alleges that Trex is defective and does not meet its marketing and warranty assertions, in violation of state consumer protection laws. More than 20,000 retired Oregon public employees would be protected from having to reimburse the state pension fund for past "overpayments" into their pension accounts, under a class-action lawsuit. The suit challenges a recent decision by the Public Employees Retirement System Board to recoup the money from the retirees by making reductions in their monthly checks.
A class action was filed on behalf of nine hurricane Katrina and Rita victims by the NY Solidarity Coalition with Katrina/Rita Survivors. After both sides negotiated behind closed doors, the hotel's attempt to evict the refugees was refused by a judge in Queens housing court. A class action has been filed against the U.S. companies that produced the herbicide Agent Orange which was used by American forces during the Vietnam War on behalf of Vietnamese people who were indiscriminately exposed to it. The action alleges that it was used as a weapon of mass destruction in violation of the Geneva Convention; that the main ingredient in Agent Orange, dioxin, has caused three million Vietnamese people to suffer from cancer and birth defects; and that large areas of the Vietnamese landscape are still contaminated by dioxin. A class action has been filed against Pass & Seymour, Inc. on behalf of South Carolina residents whose homes have an allegedly unsafe type of electrical outlet--a back plug-in outlet--manufactured by Pass & Seymour in violation of state consumer safety laws. The action seeks unspecified compensatory damages.
