Register Your Own Personal LawsuitOther Environmental Cases of InterestA class action has been filed on behalf of search and rescue, demolition and cleanup workers, as well as local residents exposed to lethal toxins at the World Trade Center site after the September 11 terrorist attacks. The suit alleges that the workers, and potentially hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers living in the immediate vicinity, contracted serious illnesses as a result of toxic exposure. The complaint further projects that many others who were exposed but do not yet show symptoms will become ill in coming years as a result of their exposure. The lawsuit claims the city of Sioux Falls negligently designed, constructed, maintained and inspected its sanitary and storm sewer lines and systems. Due to those faults, homeowners say the city should pay for damages cause by flooding during two storms in Summer 2004. Two Virginia farmers who claim they are owed money from the federal government's $10 billion tobacco buyout are seeking to have their lawsuit against the USDA certified as a class action.
New Jersey resident Donald Coles charged that the Chambers Works Plant in Deepwater, N.J., released perfluorooctanoic acid (also known as PFOA or C8) and related chemicals into groundwater tapped by utility companies in New Jersey townships. Coles' filed a lawsuit against the DuPont Co. that targets the company's releases of a chemical used to make nonstick and stain-resistant products. Two class action lawsuits were filed relating to a CSX Transportation tanker car leak which forced evacuations in Cincinnati.
The lawyers representing homeowners filed the lawsuit against CSX Transportation and the railcar's owner, Westlake Styrene Company. Attorneys for Fayette and South Fulton, Georgia residents alleging harm from chemical releases at the Philip Services Corp. waste treatment plant near Fairburn have amended the proposed class action lawsuit to include a broadened definition of the harm done to residents and their property. |
