Cardholders May Be Eligible For Refund Of Fees

You may be eligible to receive a Court-approved refund of fees charged to your eligible cards, which are Visa, Mastercard, and/or Diners Club credit, charge, and/or debit/ATM cards. The fees were based on foreign transactions, including both purchases and ATM wihdrawals, from February 1, 1996 to November 8, 2006.

If you choose to request a refund, you may use one of three Refund Options. Each of these Options will pay a single refund of fees charged for foreign transactions on ALL of your eligible cards. You may choose only one Option from the following: 1) Easy Refund, 2) Total Estimation Refund 3) Annual Estimated.

A national class action has been filed in Texas against insurance giant United Guaranty Residential Insurance Company on behalf of all consumers for whom United Guaranty issued a mortgage insurance policy at a disadvantageous rate due to derogatory information contained in a credit report, and who did not receive notice that derogatory information obtained from a credit report was used in setting the insurance premium. The insureds claim that United Guaranty uses credit reports to set premiums but does not provide any information to consumers when an adverse decision has been made against them based on that report. The insureds allege that this violates the federal fair credit reporting act and are seeking actual damages as well as statutory damages and declaratory relief.
 
A South Carolina consumer filed a class-action lawsuit against the three national credit bureaus, charging that they allow a practice that lowers millions of individuals' credit scores.
 
Yahoo Agrees to Settle with Checkmate.
 
A class action lawsuit has been filed in the Northern District Court of Alabama against Franklin Collection Services, Inc. for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Class members seek actual and statutory damages, attorney's fees and costs of the litigation.
 
A federal court in Louisiana has certified the class in a class action filed against Imperial Adjustment Company and Equifax Credit Information Services alleging that Equifax gave Imperial unrestricted access to the personal credit reports of approximately 150 class members.
 
A class action lawsuit has been filed in federal court against Safeco Insurance Company of America. Although originally filed in Orange County (California) State Superiof Court, the case has been removed to the federal court system at the request of the defendants. The case involves violations of federal fair credit reporting law. No additional information about the substance of the allegations is available at this time.
