Washington, DC attorneys filed a consumer class action lawsuit on July 20, 2005 in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois against Hyatt International Corporation. The claim is on behalf of all guests of Hyatt's hotel in Moscow since July 2002. The complaint alleges that Hyatt made deceptive and misleading representations through its worldwide, internet based reservation system on the rates that would be charged at the Ararat Park Hyatt in Moscow, Russia.

The class has been certified in a nationwide lawsuit filed against Trex Company, Inc., on behalf of persons who purchased Trex decking materials between 1992 and 2004. The action alleges that Trex is defective and does not meet its marketing and warranty assertions, in violation of state consumer protection laws. The first class action against AmerUs Group Co., AmerUs Life Insurance Company, American Investor Life Insurance Company Inc., and their affiliates AmerUs Annuity Group and Family First Insurance Services was filed April 11, 2005. The class action complaint alleges that AmerUs Group Co., a publicly traded company on the New York Stock exchange (AMH), AmerUs Life and its affiliates’ sales practices are in violation of the federal Racketeering Influence Corrupt Organizations Act or RICO; and California’s elder abuse laws.

The parties have reached a tentative settlement, apparently valued at $7.2+ million, in an action filed against Dorel Juvenile Group, Inc. on behalf of purchasers, owners, and former owners of full-size baby cribs with ten-spindle mattress platforms designed, manufactured, or sold by Cosco, Inc. Claim forms must be postmarked on or before December 24, 2003, to be considered valid.
