Workers File Lawsuit Against Super Steel

Several current and former African American workers at Super Steel claim the company conducts a hate filled work environment. The lawsuit was filed in federal court on behalf of nine workers.

The workers claim over the past several years they experienced racist remarks, vandalism to their lockers, and a segregated environment in the break room. Workers state the company has not done enough to stop the problem despite repeated complaints to superiors.

The lawsuit is seeking $175 million in damages along with programs to educate employees about proper work behavior.

The lawsuit is open to any current or former African-American employee of Super Steel.

A class action has been filed by laid-off United Airlines mechanics against the airline and the mechanics' union, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. The action alleges that the mechanics were improperly laid off when United closed its Oakland, California, and Indianapolis, Indiana, maintenance facilities in April, 2003.
 
The parties have reached a tentative settlement in a class action filed against Shaw Industries, Inc., on behalf of California businesses and residents who performed work in connection with floor covering products under warranty by Shaw in California between September 19, 1998, and June 4, 2004. The action alleges that Shaw did not properly compensate its dealers for activities undertaken in connection with the service, repair, and replacement of floor covering products covered by warranty. Persons eligible to take part in the settlement should contact the attorneys for the class for more information.
 
A class action lawsuit has been filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida against BC Baquero Construction, Inc. The case involves violations of employment law. No additional information about the substance of the allegations is available at this time. Travel agents have taken a big hit on their bottom lines since the airlines decided to get into mainstream ticket sales. Travel agents have file a nationwide class action against online airline ticketer Orbitz, LLC and the airlines that created it, alleging that the airlines are using Orbitz to eliminate traditional travel agents and monopolize the airline ticket distribution market in violation of federal antitrust laws.
 
A statewide collective action has been filed in Florida against Professional Enterprises & Construction Corporation The action is brought on behalf of all current and former hourly employees of Professional Enterprises, who since June 2001, were not paid proper statutory overtime for all hours worked beyond 40 per week. The action is brought under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and seeks statutory and liquidated damages as well as declaratory and injunctive relief. As a collective action, all potential claimants are required to "opt-in" to the action in order to be considered part of the class. The employees have requested that the court issue notice to all potential class members.
