Two former South Sound Les Schwab employees have filed a class action lawsuit against the tire company, saying the company denied them promotions, training and other employment opportunities because they are women.
Plaintiffs Magen Morris of Tacoma and Jennifer Strange of Eatonville worked in the office and clerical side of the retail stores.
The suit was filed January 18, 2006 in U.S. District Court in Seattle.
Morris worked at Les Schwab stores in Tacoma, SeaTac and Bellevue as well as at the company’s headquarters in Prineville, OR. Strange worked in Puyallup.
In the lawsuit, the women say they were denied advancement in the company because of their gender, even though they were willing to change store locations to move into management.
The lawsuit also claims the company has a practice of discrimination, saying that Les Schwab has never hired a female manager for its retail stores and that the company systematically excludes women from working on the sales and service side of the stores – experience required for getting a management position.
