Internet and telephone dating services are steadily growing in popularity, with millions using them to meet other like-minded persons. The parties have reached a tentative $675,000 settlement in a California class action filed against telephone dating service operators UC Media Services, Inc. and Boulevard Media, Inc. on behalf of all current and former male customers of the services in California who paid for the services between May 2, 1998, and May 30, 2003. Claims must be postmarked on or before August 15, 2003, to be considered valid.

The parties have reached a tentative $5.17 million settlement in an action filed against Station Casinos, Inc., and its subsidiaries, on behalf of all persons who stayed at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino, Boulder Station Hotel & Casino, Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel, Sunset Station Hotel & Casino, Santa Fe Station Hotel & Casino, Green Valley Ranch Station Casino, Fiesta Rancho Casino Hotel, Fiesta Henderson Casino Hotel, or the Wild Wild West Gambling Hall & Hotel between April 1, 2001, and June 7, 2004. The action alleged that the company failed to disclose the collection of a $1 charge for telephone usage and an "energy surcharge" of up to $3.50 per night, in violation of state consumer protection statutes. Coupons issued in the settlement must be used within 18 months of the approval of the settlement.

A class action lawsuit has been filed in the District Court of Maryland against Hien Thi NGO for violations of The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. Commonly referred to as "RICO", the Act addresses the infiltration of legitimate businesses by organized crime. The parties have reached a nationwide tentative settlement apparently valued at $12 million in an action filed against Northwest Pipe Company on behalf of persons and businesses that purchased "Poz Lok" pipe fire sprinkler systems manufactured and sold in the 1990s by companies later acquired by Northwest Pipe.
