Sony Enters Into Preliminary Settlement With Movigoers Over False Advertising

The Los Angeles County Superior Court has preliminarily approved settlement of a pending class action against Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. The case involves allegations that Sony fabricated quotes used in advertising motion pictures. Sony has denied liability, but has agreed to settle this action to avoid the cost and uncertainty of litigation.

The Settlement Class includes all persons who, between August 3, 2000 and October 31, 2001, purchased a ticket to the theatrical exhibition of Hollow Man, Vertical Limit, A Knight's Tale, The Animal, or The Patriot in the United States. The parties have reached a tentative settlement apparently valued at $986,769 in an action filed against AT&T Corporation on behalf of certain persons who own or owned land in Connecticut, through which railroads run and on which AT&T laid fiber optic cable. Claims must be received by March 1, 2004, to be considered valid.
 
Thousands of Rhode Islanders will be getting checks from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island. That’s after Blue Cross, the state’s largest health insurer, agreed on July 21, 2005 to settle two class-action lawsuits. Under the settlement approved Friday, Blue Cross has agreed to pay 17-point-five (m) million dollars to settle the federal and state suits. The money will go to about 116-thousand current and former Blue Cross customers.
 
A Knox County Superior Court justice granted approval of a class action settlement against former funeral home director Andrew L. Pratt. Justice J. Kirk Studstrup approved the class action settlement in the amount of $250,000.
 
Class action lawsuit was filed by th Arizona Center for Disability Law Center against the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), (Arizona's Medicaid system).
