Icon Material Employees Sue for Unpaid Meal and Rest Breaks

A class action lawsuit has been filed in the Western District Court of Washington against CPM Development Corporation (DBA Icon Materials), a Washington state based paving business for violations of the wage, hour, and labor laws and regulations of the State of Washington. Class members seek damages, attorney's fees and costs of the litigation.

Specifically, the complaint alleges that the plaintiff has been employed as a laborer by the defendant and has been required to work without being provided a meal period which violates Washington law which requires companies to provide workers of not less than 30 consecutive minutes during which employees should be afforded a rest and meal period (WAC 296-126-092). The complaint alleges that the Company has a company-wide policy of this practice. The class is composed of laborers, operators and other employees of ICON who are or have been required to work without being provided a meal period.

Class members seek unpaid overtime compensation, damages, attorney's fees and costs of the litigation.
 
A statewide collective action has been filed in Florida against Laird Plastics, Inc. The action is brought on behalf of all current and former employees of Laird who have not been compensated in accordance to federal law for all hours worked in excess of 40 per week. The action is brought under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and seeks back pay, statutory and liquidated damages as well as injunctive and declaratory relief. As a collective action, all potential claimants must voluntarily "opt-in" to the case in order to be considered a member of the class. The employees have requested that the court issue notice to all potential claimants.
 
A class action has been filed in Texas against petro-chemical giant Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, LP on behalf of all past and present female managers--apparently nationally--of the company who have experienced discrimination based on their sex. The managers claim that Chevron has systematically discriminated against them, violating both federal and Texas civil rights laws. The managers are seeking compensatory damages, back and front pay, injunctive relief and liquidated damages.
 
Federal law prohibits sexual harassment in the workplace. A class action has been filed against business consulting service International Profit Associates, Inc. on behalf of current and former female employees who allege that they were her arrest sexually on the job in violation of federal civil rights laws.
