Consumer Sues Law Firm for Filing Actions without Researching Information

Specifically, the complaint alleges that the defendants are attorney debt collectors who have engaged in unfair debt collection practices and deceptive consumer practices by filing complaints in state courts over consumer debts and attaching affidavits to those complaints with conducting a meaningful review of the facts contained in those affidavits.

The defendant's filed such an action against the plaintiff in this case. Upon further investigation of the alleged debt owed, the defendants dismissed the action. The plaintiff alleges that this type of practice violates the FDCPA and Ohio law.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against New York collection agent Law Offices of Mitchell N. Kay, PC. The suit alleges that the defendant engaged in abusive and deceptive collection practices that violated federal fair debt collection practices laws. The suit seeks to certify a national class and collect actual and punitive damages on behalf of the plaintiffs.
 
Federal credit and banking laws prohibit credit providers from discriminating based on ethnicity, national origin, or race. A class action has been filed against Ford Motor Credit Company on behalf of African American customers who allege racial discrimination in connection with the company's financing plan in violation of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act.
 
A class action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of employees of Novastar Mortgage Company. The suit alleges that the company routinely denied overtime pay to loan originators who qualified as hourly employees and who had worked hours in excess of 40 per week. The workers are seeking back overtime pay and other damages.
 
A statewide class action has been filed in New York against collections specialist, Collection Information Bureau. The action is brought on behalf of all New York consumers who received "form type" collection letters from Collection Information at any time since March 11, 2003. The action is brought under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and seeks statutory damages as well as injunctive and declaratory relief.
 
A national class action has been filed in Washington against wireless provider giant, AT&T Wireless Services, Inc. The action is brought on behalf of all U.S. customers of AT&T Wireless who were charged alleged unauthorized billing penalties as a result of terminating their AT&T Wireless contract. The action is brought under federal law communications law and state contract law and seeks restitution, compensatory and statutory damages as well as injunctive and declaratory relief.
