A class action lawsuit has been filed in the District Court of Maryland against National Federation of the Blind, Inc., a non-profit company doing work in Maryland, for violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) which establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and child labor standards affecting full-time and part-time workers in the private sector and in Federal, State, and local governments.. Class members seek unpaid compensation, attorney's fees and costs of the litigation.
Specifically, the complaint alleges that Mary Brady was employed by National as a grant writer from September, 2003 to June, 2004 on a salaried basis. However, she was paid on an hourly basis for the same job from June, 2004 until her employment ended in October, 2004. During the entire course of her employment, she regularly worked in excess of forty (40) hours per week and alleges that National's failure to pay her overtime wages violates the FLSA.
More specifically, she claims that the Company made improper deductions from her pay, docked her for partial day absences and did not pay her for time in connection with required travel.
