California state law protects workers from unexpected job losses due to layoffs. A collective action has been filed in Alabama against the Shelby County Board of Education. The action is brought on behalf of all former and current employees who have worked in excess of 40 hours a week, but who have not been paid overtime by Aiken County. The action is brought under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is seeking back pay as damages.
 
A statewide collective action has been filed in Florida against Dyna-Life Products, Inc. The action is brought on behalf of all current and former employees, who since February 2001, were not paid proper statutory overtime for all hours worked beyond 40 per week. The action is brought under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and seeks statutory and liquidated damages as well as declaratory and injunctive relief. As a collective action, all potential claimants are required to "opt-in" to the action in order to be considered part of the class. The employees have requested that the court issue notice to all potential class members.
 
Company retirement plans can be a great investment, but diversification gives the greatest security. The class has been certified in a class action filed against the New York Life Insurance Company Pension Plan and related entities on behalf of current and former participants and beneficiaries of the NYL Employee and Agent Pension and 401(k) Plans, who allege that plans’ administrators used the Plans to breached their fiduciary duties in violation of the federal Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) when they deliberately misinvested funds and caused losses to the plans.
 
Patients aren’t the only ones that have been hurt by the HMO phenomenon. A class of physicians has been certified in an action filed against some of the nation's largest managed care companies. The doctors charge that the plans conspired to breach contracts and defraud them in violation of the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).
 
A class action lawsuit has been filed in the Southern District Court of Florida against Broque Corporation (DBA Broque Corporation Tessy Factory). The case involves violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act which establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and child labor standards affecting full-time and part-time workers in the private sector and in Federal, State, and local governments.
