A class action lawsuit has been filed in the Southern District Court of Florida against Southpoint Condominium Association, Inc. The case involves violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act which establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and child labor standards affecting full-time and part-time workers in the private sector and in Federal, State, and local governments. A class action has been filed against HIP Hot-in-Place Paving, LLC, a Florida paving company, for violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), specifically for not paying their employees overtime compensation. The class seeks overtime compensation for hours worked, liquidated damages, attorney’s fees, cost and expenses of the litigation and pre-judgment interest. Trucking has always been regarded as a predominantly male occupation, but women employed at trucking giant CH Robinson Worldwide claim that the company and it's male employees created an environment that crossed the legal boundary into active discrimination. A class action lawsuit filed against the company alleges that women were not paid as well or promoted to supervisory jobs as often as men, even though they were equally qualified. The suit also contends that the work environment at CH Robinson was extremely hostile to women as a result of lewd behavior on the part of male employees, including branch managers. A hearing on class certification in this gender discrimination suit was held in late November, 2004. At this time of this report a ruling had not yet been issued. If the class is certified as many as 2,000 current and former sales, operation and support workers would be able to sue the Minnesota based company. Several class actions have been filed against employment agency Adecco SA (NYSE: ADO) and certain of its officers and directors by stockholders who purchased the company' common stock between March 16, 2000, and January 9, 2004. The actions claim that the defendants violated federal securities laws by issuing a series of material misrepresentations to the market over this time period, thereby artificially inflating the price of the company's securities. The stockholders seek to recover compensatory damages for the loss of value of their stock. Several current and former African American workers at Super Steel claim the company conducts a hate filled work environment. The lawsuit was filed in federal court on behalf of nine workers.
The workers claim over the past several years they experienced racist remarks, vandalism to their lockers, and a segregated environment in the break room. Workers state the company has not done enough to stop the problem despite repeated complaints to superiors.
