A class action has been filed against the State of Ohio alleging unlawful discrimination in domestic relation matters concerning child custody and child support from noncustodial parents. The complaint alleges that these parents do not enjoy the same degree of physical, possessory and legal rights regarding aspects of the care, custody and management of their children as the custodial parent. Class members seek immediate restoration of equal custodial rights along with other remedies.

The action is brought on behalf of all New York residents who have been employed by Jacobs between December 22, 1997 and December 22, 2003 and who have not been paid overtime compensation during their employment. The employees bring this action under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and New York labor laws and seek back pay, statutory damages and injunctive and declaratory relief. As a collective action, all potential claimants must "opt-in" to the action in order to recover. The employees have indicated that the potential class is quite large and have asked the court to issue notice to all potential claimants.
 
The complaint alleges that security officers employed by the Florida company were routinely denied overtime pay regardless of how many hours they were required to work. The federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires employers to pay employees overtime of time and one-half the normal rate for all hours in excess of 40 in a single workweek.
 
When American citizens have problems overseas, it is normally a matter for diplomats, not the U.S. court system, but there are exceptions. A class action has been filed against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the General Organization of Social Insurance, an agency of that government, on behalf of American workers who allege that they are being denied benefits by the Saudi government that they were promised in payment for in-country construction and development of Saudi Arabia.
