A class action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of Indiana residents who received dunning notices from Calumet Adjustment Bureau. The suit alleges that Calumet failed to adhere to the requirements of the federal fair debt collection practices act in its interactions with debtors.
The complaint alleges that the named plaintiff received dunning letters from Calumet but did not receive the notice identifying the original debtor that Calumet was required to submit by law.
The plaintiffs seek statutory damages of $1,000.00 per plantiff.

The action is brought on behalf of all Pennsylvania consumers who, since May 12, 2003, received form type collection letters from Debt Enforcement that contained language regarding potential lawsuits as well as mentioning the Sheriff's Department. The action is brought under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and seeks statutory damages as well as injunctive and declaratory relief. A class action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of employees of Novastar Mortgage Company. The suit alleges that the company routinely denied overtime pay to loan originators who qualified as hourly employees and who had worked hours in excess of 40 per week. The workers are seeking back overtime pay and other damages. A class action lawsuit has been filed in the Middle District Court of Florida against Park Financial of Broward County, Inc. and Attorney Ronald R. Torres for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) which prohibits debt collectors from engaging in abusive, deceptive and unfair collection practices and the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act. Class members seek actual, statutory and punitive damages as well as attorneys' fees and costs. A judge in California certified a class action lawsuit against Verisign to proceed and to include up to 400,000 class members. The total liability exposure to Verisign may exceed 200 million U.S. dollars. The suit was filed last year in California.
