Reynolds Tobacco Company and Philip Morris USA, Inc., respectively, on behalf of all current or former smokers of Marlboro Lights, Camel Lights, Salem Lights, and Winston Lights in the state of Washington. The actions allege that the companies’ marketing strategies violate state consumer protection laws by actively concealing the fact that light cigarette smokers not only get as much or more tar as regular smokers, but may be smoking a more addictive product as well. The class has been certified in a class action filed against IPC Pharmacy and five related companies on behalf of Hawaiians who allege that the company accepted pills returned by nursing homes and recycled them either by returning them to bulk container bottles or by relabeling them in violation of state consumer protection laws. The FDA has concluded that the overall risk of liver toxicity from Cylert and generic pemoline products outweighs the benefits of this drug. In May 2005, Abbott chose to stop sales and marketing of Cylert in the U.S. All generic companies have also agreed to stop sales and marketing of this product (Pemoline tablets and chewable tablets). Cylert is a central nervous system stimulant indicated for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). A national class action has been filed against New York City's Interfaith Medical Center on behalf of all consumers who have received, since November 6, 2002, a collection letter from either South Side Collection, Inc. or National Revenue, Ltd in an attempt to collect a debt for Interfaith. The consumers allege that these letters are actually generated by Interfaith itself and therefore violate the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Consumers are seeking actual damages, statutory damages, and injunctive and declaratory relief.
