A class action spanning Pennsylvania, Georgia and New Jersey was filed in Pennsylvania against the law firm of Lawrence A. Hecker, P.A.. The action was brought on behalf of all consumers residing in the three states who received "form" type collection letters from Heckler. The action was brought under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and sought statutory damages as well as injunctive and declaratory relief.
According to consumers, Lawrence Hecker's law firm violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act through its use of "form" type collection letters.
Plaintiffs filed a motion for class certification on 7/2/2004, and Heckler filed an opposition on 8/12/2004. Subsequently, prior to a decision on class certification, the parties settled their claims and the case never proceeded to the class certification stage, and was ultimately dismissed on 9/23/2004.

Indiana consumers are fed up with payday loan businesses that charge excessive interest. A class action has been filed against payday loan businesses Credit Bureau of South Bend, Inc., American Check Cashiers, Inc., and their owners on behalf of all persons who allege that the company charged them interest rates far above those allowed by the federal Truth in Lending Act, and the Indiana Consumer Fraud Act.
A statewide class action has been filed in Indiana against collection specialists Weltman, Weinberg & Reis. The action is brought on behalf of all Indiana consumers who received standard form type collection letters from Weltman, Weinberg & Reis which failed to provide an accurate accounting of the consumer's outstanding debt. The action is brought under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and seeks statutory damages as well as injunctive and declaratory relief.
A class action lawsuit has been filed in the Northern District Court of Alabama against Franklin Collection Services, Inc. for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Class members seek actual and statutory damages, attorney's fees and costs of the litigation.
