Radiofone's Louisiana Cellular Customers Recover for Allegedly Deceptive Billing |

The parties have announced a proposed settlement of a class action against Radiofone, Inc. on behalf of customers who paid for cellular telephone service from Radiofone in Louisiana at any time between June 29, 1989, and October 2, 2000. The action claims that Radiofone failed to tell its customers that (1) the time of calls is rounded up to the next full minute, and (2) time is measured from the moment the customer presses the "send" button and engages Radiofone's equipment. To recover under the settlement, you must file a claim form postmarked no later than February 15, 2003.
Under the settlement, class members will receive a calling card valid for approximately 120 minutes of calling to any of the 48 contiguous U.S. states. The card is valued at $10. Class members are eligible for multiple cards if they had multiple cellular service contracts with Radiofone at the same time.

The parties have reached a tentative $110 million settlement in several class actions filed against communications networking and services company Avaya, Inc., on behalf of persons and businesses whose Avaya telecommunications products did not process date functions correctly when their internal clocks switched to January 1, 2000, because of Y2K incompatibilities. Several class actions have been filed against defense contractor Titan Corporation (NYSE:TTN) and certain of its officers and directors by stockholders who purchased the company's common stock between July 24, 2003, and March 22, 2004. The actions claim that the defendants violated federal securities laws by allowing foreign consultants to make improper payments to foreign governments in violation of the federal Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, so that Titan stock prices fell precipitously when news of the scandal broke. On November 19, 2003, the parties announced a proposed settlement, potentially valued at $9.33 million, in a class action against Microsoft Corporation on behalf of South Dakota residents who indirectly purchased Microsoft operating system, productivity suite, spreadsheet or word processing software for their own use between March 10, 1996, and December 31, 2002. The settlement will not be effective until the court grants it final approval. Craigslist.com, a fast-growing online network of classified ads and forums, faces a lawsuit filed by a Chicago fair housing group in U.S. District Court. The lawsuit contends that Craigslist's Chicago site published more than 100 ads that violated the federal Fair Housing Act by excluding prospective buyers or tenants on the basis of race, gender or religion. The parties have reached a tentative nationwide $5 million settlement in an action filed against major cellular phone services and three insurance companies on behalf of all persons who purchased wireless equipment insurance between January 1, 1986, and February 20, 2004, through a wireless equipment insurance program administered by Asurion Insurance Services, Inc., Lockton Companies, Inc., or Lock\Line, LLC. The action alleged that the insurance programs failed to comply with applicable state insurance statutes and were marketed in a manner that failed to comply with Pennsylvania's consumer protection statutes. Proof of claim forms must be postmarked on or before August 9, 2004, to be considered valid.
